This is a game made for the Shovel Jam 2025, based around color ramps.

Development Insight

The original idea was that you start with black and white, and when you collect a color orb, it allows you to see that color, and use it in the ramps and pumps. I didn't end up implementing that, but the orbs still fill up the ramps and pumps.

There were also plans to make a larger, more complex enemy as a boss, then be used more as an uncommon enemy just to make it that much more difficult. I ended up running out of time before I could put that together.

And finally, there's no air resistance. It would make the gameplay much more smoother, but I kept running into a bug that I tried fixing for like an hour, so I just left it be. (because of this, some actions require you to stop pressing [A] and [D] for them to work properly)


Controls

[A] and [D] to move left and right

[Space] to jump

[Shift] to dash

[Ctrl] (when midair) to slam

[Q] and [E] to cycle weapons backward and forward

[1], [2], and [3] to select weapon

[Mouse move] to aim

[LMB] to shoot

[R] to re/start


Mechanics

Ramps boost you when dashed into, varying by how many colors you have in the ramp. (Let go of [A] and [D]!)

Pumps boost you when jumped on, varying by how many colors you have in the ramp.

Orbs add the corresponding color to ramps and pumps.

Slamming damages nearby enemies and makes you jump higher right after.

Killing 3 enemies heals 1 HP.


Combos

Dash then jump (when on ground) to dash-jump. (Let go of [A] and [D]!)

Slam then jump to slam-jump.

Jump near a ledge while moving towards it to ledge-jump.

Dash into a pump (when midair) to pump-dash. (Let go of [A] and [D]!)


Known Bugs

Game doesn't take up full screen.

Pressing [Ctrl] on the main menu crashes the game.

Standing on the ledge of a tile taller than 1 tile makes the player's sprite tweak. (I guess he's afraid of heights?)

Jumping against a wall taller than 1 tile in a corner will not make the player jump. (He's in timeout.)

Player may get stuck on wall.

Dying will set songs to full volume. (Sorry! It really does just turn into a horror game.)

Thorns may appear to fall from the sky or go through the floor.
